Student Learning and Achievement
The 2015 State of the Schools Report was released by the Nebraska Department of Education. Approximately 675 Nebraska schools have been labeled as low performing, due to not meeting 100% proficiency on reading and math. Our school-age buildings are included in the 675 schools. Education Commissioner Matt Blomstedt's letter regarding the data and an alternative system for of school evaluation is available by clicking here.
Nebraska State Accountability (NeSA) results in reading, math, science, and writing have been released. The Plattsmouth Community Schools had 9 out of 20 grade levels/content areas where the percentage of our students that met or exceeded the standards was higher than the percentage of students state-wide that met or exceeded the standards. While the NeSA test is given one time per year as a tool to compare students throughout the state, we use Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing to monitor studentsí growth during the school year.
You may recall from the August Superintendentís Report that, based on a comparison of Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) data from the fall of 2014 to the spring of 2015, studentsí mean actual growth exceeded mean projected growth on 25 (89.3%) of 28 measures in grades K-8. Our teachers and students should be commended for their commitment to continuous improvement of individual students, as we strive to improve our scores on the NeSA tests that are given one time per year.
